Big Brother & Little Brother Lots

The story behind these Geshas! Don Gerson originally thought that Geshas were just an overhyped varietal or a super well-developed marketing scheme. (He might be right too, lol.) But much of that changed when he tasted his own gesha lots for the first time. Soon after, he started planting more gesha varietals not because he had a market outlet for them but because he simply loved the way they tasted and the way they grew as he cared for them.

His admiration and love for the gesha varietal grew so much that friends and families began teasing Don Gerson about having a second wife. Don Gerson and his wife live in the city of Huehue which is about 4-5 hours away from their farm in Hoja Blanca. Don Gerson would travel up every week just to take care of his gesha plants where people would tease him about visiting his second wife… (aka his gesha plants).

The two gesha lots “Pante Grande” and “La Linea” are grown in the same area about 200 feet away, have the same shade trees, same soil content, same river nearby, same harvesting days, same drying schedules, same everything…

Except, the Pante Grande lot comes from gesha plants that have reached 3 years old in age, and the La Linea lot comes from gesha plants that are currently 5 years old in age.

On the cupping table, it was wild to see the differences between the two lots. They’re entirely different! We’re seeing much more of a youthful wildness to the Pante Grande (my personal favorite) with huge brightness, and tropical fruits; while the Linea has a more developed sweetness, sangria-like character, and more of that traditional gesha-like delicate body that’s super enjoyable.

It was hard to choose one over the other so we decided to bring on both this year. (With the encouragement of Pete!) We’re excited for this to be a lot that we’ll continue to buy year after year and to see the excitement grow with each year. We have limited availability, so let us know quickly if you’re interested.
