La Montaña & Los Pinos Finca San Rafael

These two lots are another set of peas in a pod. The lot La Montaña comes from the side of a mountain nearby and Los Pinos come from an area commonly known as Los Pinos. So there’s not much to these names but where these lots deserve some solid recognition is in the intentionality behind how they’re processed.

After the passing of Don Gerson’s parents, he took over Finca San Rafael and processed all of his coffees as washed lots. In 2019, the specialty industry piqued his interest, and entered a couple of lots into the Cup of Excellence (COE). To his surprise, he won 19th place that year and was subsequently awarded an export license alongside these exquisite lots.

With the surprise of producing a coffee that entered, and placed, in the COE, Don Gerson’s interest grew in wanting to produce high-scoring coffees, and began to experiment with different processing methods.

That’s where Los Pinos and La Moñtana come along. Since 2019, each year he’s processed this coffee in different methods including washed, anaerobic, and natural. After years worth of fine-tuning and cupping feedback from Anacafe, Don Gerson found that his natural processing methods always seem to perform the best.

We’re excited to offer you these two coffees coming from a person that’s placed much love, passion, and eagerness to learn in both of these lots. Don Gerson feels like he’s reaching an accomplishment knowing that these lots are finally going to be sold to roasters whom he hopes to meet someday.

(P.S. Buying these coffees might come with a requirement….to visit Hoja Blanca, Huehue with us!)
